Warming 'Watermelons'
For those of you lucky enough to live in Denver, you know that we have one of the best radio
talk show hosts in the country. Mike
Rosen.
He also writes a weekly column for the Rocky Mountain News. He recently wrote a column called “Warming
‘Watermelons.’” This is a reference to Horowitz' clever label of communists who became "greens" (Mike gives him credit).
For those of you who remain skeptics, like me, you will find
his article
to articulate what we conservatives find obvious.
He quotes Stephen Schneider, an atmospheric scientist at Stanford,
saying:
“That, of course, entails getting
loads of media coverage. So we have to offer up scary scenarios, make
simplified, dramatic statements, and make little mention of any doubts we might
have. This 'double ethical bind' we frequently find ourselves in cannot be
solved by any formula. Each of us has to decide what the right balance is
between being effective and being honest [emphasis mine]. I hope that means being both.”
He makes the insightful point:
Global warming hysteria is a
convenient vehicle for the radical enviro political agenda which regards
conventional energy use and economic growth as inherently "bad,"
along with their byproducts: cars, SUVs, suburban "sprawl,"
materialism in general, and its enabler, capitalism.
His show’s website is here, and pod casts can
be found here
(registration required).
With Gore's movie and Brokaws' Discovery channel
show we conservatives need to know the other side of the
argument. Here are some alternative viewpoints. Be sure to click on the names of the
scientists to view their credentials. I
choose these because they are qualified to speak about Global-warming.
